Recycling in textile projects

I like to use recycled materials in my textile projects. This is an idea for the odds and ends of threads and fabric left over after other projects

  1. Place a layer of bubble wrap on the bottom (bubble side up)
  2. Cut up your left over yarns, threads and bits of fabric. You could even include sequins or bits of paper with interesting text
  3. Place a sheet of cling film over the top to seal
  4. Place a piece of baking paper over the "plastic sandwich" to completely cover the plastic
  5. Iron over the baking paper on a medium to hot setting
  6. The cling film will fuse to the bubble wrap trapping your bits and bobs
  7. When it has fused, leave it to cool down
  8. Stitch by hand or machine or cut it up and use it in your textile projects

If you don't use baking paper the plastic will melt all over your iron. See the post below to see what a mess I made to my iron yesterday!

That's ag reat way to use up all those little snippets that you can't bear to throw away. I shall have to try this. Of course, I will now have to pester everyone for bubble wrap too! lol

Carolyn - I love this idea. I've never trapped thread in plastic? I've used water soluable sheets and netting but never plastic. What a cool idea - thanks!

Great tip, thanks! I suspect mine wouldn't look quite as beautiful as yours though :-)
