I hope things settle down a bit soon ...
Yesterday, I managed to finish off a few little things ... clearing the way a bit so I can concentrate on my art quilt for FOQ 2010 (which is looming!)
This is a postcard I made for Emma's postcard swap. It's lightly quilted with layers of distressed sheer fabrics, a mussel shell and some beads. I used one of my recent watercolours for the back of the card. I only finished it yesterday and haven't posted it yet ... but on Monday it will be on it's way to you Emma!
St. Ives on the hottest day so far this year ...
85°C (Monday 24th May)
This is a little mixed media card I made using one of the watercolour backgrounds. I used a vintage seaside photo, text, distressed sheer fabrics and beads
I like the photo which reminds me of a typical English seaside scene. I waxed the photo and text to give it a nice finish and a little layering
"so utterly English"
another little watercolour got used for this column of pebbles which I machine stitched to some hand dyed cotton that Cathie gave me - thank you Cathie ♥
For the strips in the pebbles I used torn (hand made) paper and text machine stitched with silver thread
My colour scheme is, as ever, inspired by St. Ives ... aqua blue sea and sky and golden sand and lichen
This is a double page spread in my sketchbook ... a mixed media collage using hand dyed fabrics, magazine pictures, felt tops, machine stitching, monoprinted pebbles and text
A stormy sky over Porthminster beach, St. Ives
I made a little video of the waves washing in ... just 23 seconds of pure beauty
Have a wonderful weekend

Julie you can just hear my 8 year old nephew squeak as the sea washed over my feet. It was very hard for an excitable 8 year old to stay so quiet for 23 seconds :o)

I loved looking at your site, but was reminded of my home on the Gulf Coast. I now live in New Mexico, in the shadow of Taos mountain. I am heart sick at the loss of habitat on the coast and in the marshlands. It feels like a stone in my chest. I heard a man from Louisiana say, I went into the marsh and everything was dead. As Terry Tempest Williams says, "We must watch as beautiful things die." I know people around the world morn the loss.
Thank you.
sigh ...maybe I'll get back to Cornwal again. Lovely imaves Carolyn as always
