Creating Texture with Shirring Elastic

This very small sample was an experiment with shirring elastic

I wound some shirring elastic onto the bobbin of my sewing machine (the reason for this is quite obvious - the elastic is too thick to thread through the needle on the sewing machine so it has to go in the bobbin) and used a regular cotton thread on top. The fabrics are two layers of sheers and some scrim on top of calico. Stitching through all the layers, the elastic pulls up the fabrics as you stitch making "bubbles" of texture
