Pink Squares

These little squares were made by layering lots of fabrics on top of a thick felt base and melting through the layers with a soldering iron

I used some fabrics that melt/distort easily such as sheers, chiffons, organza etc. and also some natural fabrics that don't melt so well for extra texture and colour so that in places I wasn't melting through all the layers

I machine stitched a grid pattern to secure all the bits of fabric, then used a soldering iron to melt the fabrics in each tiny square

To finish I added hand stitches, beads, sequins or charms. They are nice little bits to add to bigger pieces of work and they make nice hand made cards

Just having a quick look round before going off to stitch a bit - glad I did, these are lovely - more inspiration for me - you are my mentor! Connie.

Carolyn, all of these samples are extraordinary! I'm sending friends here who get dry spells, want to try something new, or are stumped what to do next---this is a fabulous resource for novice and advanced alike. Thank you!

You made me dig out all my old stuff from my textile art collage program days and go through them--pretty UNinspired in comparison as i did'nt quite "get" the possibilities yet with "making" my own fabrics, but NOW? HA!

You ROCK.
